~ Specialist Vehicles Preservation Group ~
Due to the move of the group now towards a charitable status, certain words are not acceptable to the charities commission and 'appeal' is one of them.
Therefore a decision has been made to form a new group the S. V. P. G. as I feel it can cover a far greater range of 'specialist' vehicles which we all have an interest in. From the TACR1 to the larger Mk9 and bigger appliances.
I have looked at other options such as a limited company together with senior members of the group and took advice from a member who has had personal experience of working as a charity. This appears to be the way forward to benefit both the group and it's members. All aspects of this transition have been discussed at a meeting held recently and the conclusion was to become a charity with a constitution and governing body to take us forward in the preservation and operation of these classic vehicle.
Some Vehicles Preserved by Members of the Group
We will also help other charities by donating surplus funds to them. Either a main charity will be chosen or a 'favourite' charity will be nominated each year to receive these surplus funds. A concern raised was what if anything was to happen to me, where would the members stand who had custodianship of vehicles that had been donated to the group.
As one member put it, 'I am the group'! that's what they were all there for to share my dreams and move the group into a well known organisation much like the other clubs that attend many of the shows and events that we do. So it is proposed that a committee is elected with a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, Membership secretary, Web master, Health/Safety officer and Fund Raising officer together with Trustees to oversee the group assets.
Above is just an example of how the new web page could look but with a specially arranged picture being taken at an event to encompass the variety of the vehicle we restore & preserve. The first AGM of the new group is planned to be held at the Derby Fire Show in June 2010.
I am sure this will bring the group into a more public place than we have been before especially with the many articles and future articles planned in various publications. Once the constitution and governing document has been finalised I will let you know more.
The SixAppealWheelGroup continues as before.
