Hi All!
This has just surfaced in Portugal for sale. I know that it used to have a British plate SGB 761 N.

Hi Rui If this is SGB 761N then it is not what it was. Originally SGB 761N was a one off fire vehicle built by ELP Plant as a demonstrator for Oil Refinery fire fighting. It had a scissor lift on the back with a remote control monitor on the top. Because of operating in the petrochemical industry it was also fitted with a diesel engine. The bodywork on it now is very similar to the Penn Overland safari tour buses, so I can only suggest that at some point the body has been swopped. I would have thought that unlikely as not many peopl e have spare Commando back bodies lying about. How sure are you of the registration number? Regards J.C.

Just found an article by James Taylor in an old magazine where a picture of this is shown. Its referred to as a 'Safari' and possibly a 'one' off? I will scan it and post asap.

Hi guys,
Sorry Walt, but it is not one of the two Penn Overland vehicles!
It could possibly be SGB 761N, because I believe that it was converted to an 'ordinary' Commando when ELP could not get any interest in the 'scissor lift' vehicle. You will note that the roof has no raised edges to it and is actually lower than the fire service vehicles. I think Carmichael only built a few vehicles with this roof line.
The only way to be certain is to obtain the chassis and/or the build number.

The bodywork is the same as that built as a shooting vehicle for Sir Charles Forte and looks as if it is only one of 3 vehicles produced with this bodywork! There is a picture of the Forte one on the back of the Commando brochure. There is probably a picture on the album site somewhere.
Even if you don't buy the vehicle, take plenty of pictures of it and put them on the album site.
