Hi guy's... I am looking for a supplier of a Landrover 'Road tyre' size 7.50/80/16 '10ply' or 900x16 but do need to be a road tyre, for use on a civilian Landrover fire engine? Or maybe someone may know of some 'used' good condition for sale? Ivan.

Hi Ivan, I checked with my mate, its not good news. 900x16 only come in rib block (army type) at a cost of £200 each. He said its because they are classed as vintage. I am still waiting back on the 750x16's

Thanks for asking about the tyres mate, thought as much myself really, I'll have to have a re-think, seems that a 10ply or even an 8ply road tyre will be ok, poss a 255 or 235/85/16 they are at reasonable prices! Again many thanks! Ivan.

Ivan, Try Paul Hazells TACR1 site. He mentioned some supplier of tyres that he had found.

Hi Walt. Thanks, but I put Paul onto those tyres for the TACR 1 site myself, its actually a rare 'Road Tyre' I am looking for, Gordon Smith has an old set on his TACR 1 that he got from Paul. I have not seen any like them before, but would be ideal for my latest 'Civilian' 109 Carmichael.

Hi Pal, They are possibly going to be the answer, but even 750/85/16 are a little short of the mark for what l wanted, they are Mitchelin X 750's on at the moment, but l wanted a more 'Beefy' tyre to suit it being a 4x4.
If anyone finds anything suitable out there, please tell me...

Hi Ivan, perhaps you could ring my pal direct and have a chin wag with him about your exact requirements. Its 01252 318666, ask for John or Paul. Let me know how you get on.

You will find that 255-85-16's are bigger than 750x16's, by a couple of inches, and unless you have a One Ton , this is likely to be as big as you will be able to fit, in terms of diameter. I am not sure about availability in an AT type tread though. You won't be able to fit proper sized 9x16's unless you have One Ton suspension as there won't be sufficient arch clearance. Michelin XZL's are the best 9x16's you can get and are in AT tread, but they are about £200 a piece, which is the down side. There is precious little else available in 9x16 these days anyway, and what is is both undersized and either bar grip or mud terrain. Don't forget that if you fit bigger tyres you are also up gearing. If running a standard 2¼ petrol or even a 2.6, with a Fire Engine, its weight may be too much for the extra high gearing, unless you already have a low ratio One Ton transfer box.

Hey, thanks guys... Thank you all, I am very grateful for all your help, this vehicle, is as we think, a very limited Landrover 6Cyl 109" build by Carmichael for the North Wales/Dyfedd fire service, and so is difficult to choose, what looks in keeping and yet practicle for road and show use... I think that the 750/16's that are on at present look wrong, for this size of the vehicle, leaf sprung Landys do give this appearance l know, and have also thought of the 85/16's being a better look. Many thanks, Ivan.
